Just found out awhile back that DD#1 and her hubby are expecting a girl in February. Went to Michaels and picked up some washable yarn and as soon as I remember how to do a granny square properly will get to work on whipping up a blanket. Of course, given the progress I've made with my last few projects, the baby *might* get it by the time she's three!

Syliva, they want to name her Sylvia...

Sylvia is a very pretty name. Of course, she might get the nickname 'Sylly'. Hm.

There's a granny square sort of pattern called 'spectrum afghan' that is composed of squares, but the central row is triple crochet, the middle row half double and the top one SC. It's pretty, though...

I went and ordered it from Mary Maxim, and wouldn't you know someone found it for free. Wait a minute - I'll find the link...

Bingo! http://www.coatsandclark.com/NR/rdonlyres/362E19DF-15B0-4792...

I think it's ravishing!

Love it! May have to give that pattern a try.

The issue we're having with Sylvia, aside from it being the name of one of my friends, is that it's hard to put a middle name with it that flows. My SILs mom died when he was 11. His mom's name was Sylvia Lee. I suggested that if they are really going to go with Sylvia, maybe add the middle name "Grace", which was DD#1s great grandmother's name. I was actually going to name DS "Emily Grace", but then he turned out to be a boy, so it didn't work ;0)

I got tickled last night. For the first time in several months, DD#1 brought DGD#2 to TKD class. DGD#2 was totally adorable when they decided to do "Sumo" wrestling. She was wearing a black foam helmet, and when Kwanjanim said "Go" she shoved all the boys off the mat! Kwanjangnim winked and said "Just like Gramma!"

For some reason, Silvia Denise sounds flowing to me. Denise is my sister (Lisa) middle name.

Sylvia Grace is sure pretty, though.

Sylvia Grace is sure pretty, though.

Poor kid has ended up with a name longer than she is! Sylvia Brooklyn Grace then her last name. Her paternal grandfather is insisting on calling her Sylvia, her parents and sister are calling her Brooklyn. I'm tempted to just refer to her as "Gracie" just to be hard to get along with ;0)
