Hi folks. New to this board, I hope to get re-acquainted to some of the 'roolz of the road' here, hopefully before I break 'em out there!
:-)
(If there's another [more active?] board roundabouts please let me know.)

'bout me... I quit riding back in the mid-80's when liquor pretty much took everything from me. Booze took me from being a rider (1942 H-D '45', 74 Goldwing) to being a pedestrian with an old, worn-out, broken Honda 350-4 out in the barn. It didn't run, but in my mind... in the alcoholic fog I was still a rider.

Got clean & sober in 1990, spent a lot of time and effort becoming a productive member of society. Being a drunk takes a tremendous toll on mind, body & soul, but without having gone there I wouldn't be the man I am today. Sounds stupid maybe but some folks, like me, have to take some really stupid detours before finding our spiritual path.
Anyway, after re-establishing myself (family, home, job, etc.), I decided I had been 'between bikes' for too long. A few years back I talked it over with tenspouse and it was a go (she's even considering getting her own). Then one spring I was cleaning gutters, standing on the garage roof, when I slipped and took a 15 ft. free fall that resulted in a broken back. :-(
Crushed vertebrae, blooshed-out discs, & compressed nerves is what they told me. Ouch. But now, finally, after doing hard time in a body brace, surgery, & physical therapy, last month I got clearance from my docs to ride !

Last week I bought a '94 Sportster 1200. It was parked where I passed it everyday, to & from work, with a 'For Sale' on it. Clean, fatboy tank, H-D sablebags, straight pipes... when I finally stopped to check it out and fired it up --- shoot, that did it... 'where-the-hell's my checkbook?!' :-).
My original 'plan' was to buy a tricked-out Softail/Springer in the fall (it's a ca$h thing). The Sporty came available for $5K, which I had, so I grabbed it to get some miles back under my belt during the next few months. I've been toolin' around a bit... too & from work, grocery store... y'know, local stuff, but it needs rubber on the back. So this weekend, while I'm out of town, it's going in for new tires front & rear, and a full physical. She sounds healthy, but a look-over by an H-D specialist never hurts.

So... any heads-up I should pay attention to?

on the road again
