The Federal Reserve maintains a site called The Bank Director's Desktop. This is a site intended for new bank directors who may be new to the particulars of banking. Though this may sound odd, if you look at the typical board on a bank usually there are many members on it who do not have a banking background.

The great thing about the site is that it contains free, in-depth resources that explain banking terminology, problem areas to look for in a bank, the major regulators and regulations that cover a bank, industry-standard methods of determining a bank's risk profile, and more.

My favorite is the 128 page pdf download called "Basics for Bank Directors." You'll learn all about capitalization ratios, CAMELS composite scores, the difference between state and national banks, and more. This book takes the tack that you don't know anything about the banking business and builds from there.
