Base property taxes are probably lower in CA (prop 13) but all other taxes are much higher - gas, income tax, sales tax, local taxes...you get used to it.

I like living here. I have enough $ to live on, expect to retire early, and was even able to buy a house. I suppose if I lived in a low-tax state I could retire earlier, but I really want to be here, so what good does it do me to live someplace I don't want to be just for the money?

I like my life quit a bit (I feel very blessed and lucky) and don't fret about taxes most of the time. Yeah, it would be nice if Congress finally decided to do something about the AMT (I have written to them about that), but I CERTAINLY don't get all hot and bothered about what other states are doing. What a complete waste of energy.
