Bayer Prescribes Itself a Buyout

Did you read our "Get to Know a Country" series last month, in which we scoured Continental Europe for compelling American Depositary Receipt issues?

If so, you'll already be familiar with two companies that headlined Friday's news: Germany's Bayer (NYSE: BAY) and Schering (NYSE: SHR). You're also less likely to get confused by the fact that two-thirds of the players in this Teutonic soap opera bear names strikingly similar to U.S. corporations Schering-Plough (NYSE: SGP) and Merck (NYSE: MRK) -- neither of which plays any part in the matter.....
