Be careful in Mississippi, especially around the Jackson Metro area. We have lots of foundation issues, due to shifting clay <called "Yellow Yazoo Clay" locally>. I would also suggest that you rent for a few months to get to know the new area. When I worked in Jackson as struggling self-employed journalist for the Clarion Liar, I lived downtown in an apartment that in the winter you could shut the doors, but was almost impossible in summer. Friends would say, "Let's go over to Brin's and watch balls roll out the back door - that's how unlevel the foundation was and the owner had spent a fortune working on it. It was a cool little apt in a bad neighborhood (I slept with one eye open) - I could hear that god-awful orange Coliseum from my window; forgetabout sleeping when the fair was in town. Oh - and I had no AC.But by working 4 jobs, I finally was able to buy a small house out in Madison. I did a happy dance for months.I miss Jackson - it has everything: great museums, opera, ballet, symphony and JB, aka nice folks. tngirl
