This was an interesting little movie with Jack Black and Mos Def. The basic premise is that they run Danny Glover's little VHS video store. Danny goes on vacation, Jack Black gets super-magnetized and erases all the tapes. So Jack and Mos start filming versions (starring them) of all the movies to replace what's been erased. There's a little bit of tension as the building that houses the video store is set to be demolished to make way for condos....and that these new video sales will save the building.

Of course, it requires quite a suspension of disbelief that people would pay to watch these horrible videos, but strangely, it takes on a sort of charming quality as the whole community gets involved - locals want to act in their movies. It's not laugh out loud funny - a few chuckles in some of the productions and the lo-tech special effects they use, and their last movie - actually an original - gets everyone involved and is touching if not a bit hokey.

Jack Black is his normal annoying self...didn't really care for him, but Mos Def's character was sort of intriguing. I guess he really does fall into the category of "stuff white people like"

Anyway...a pleasant diversion.
