Beam Inc. only became a stand alone company in the fall of 2011. Formerly, it was just one of several devisions known as Fortune Brands. The other divisions were a home and security business, and a golf business.

Beam Inc. emerged (on 10/4/2011) after Fortune brands spun-off the other businesses.

Any charts or data attributable to Beam Inc. that document periods before 10/4/2011 should be labeled Fortune Brands and they (of course) show the “fortunes” of the entire conglomerate.

BEAM charts or data predating November 2011 are of no use in assessing the likely future of this company which is now solely engaged in the production and distribution of spirits.

That's what I was thinking.

I think this statement from the Seeking Alpha article is false: The company was formerly known as Fortune Brands, Inc. and changed its name to Beam Inc. in October 2011. Beam Inc. was founded in 1904 and is headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois.
