I read about this film in an article about great films of 2012 you probably haven't seen, and just watched it this evening.

Oh, it's hilariously weird! "In this black comedy inspired by real-life events, affable Texas mortician Bernie befriends the small town's weathiest widow and then kills her. But despite the suspicious nature of her death, no one wants to think anything but the best of Bernie."

It has Jack Black as Bernie, Shirley MacLaine as the widow, and Matthew McConaughey, almost unrecognizably thin, as the local district attorney. It's filmed in Texas, with lots of "regional flavor" and contains lots of "interviews of locals" incorporated into the story that turn out, in the (worth watching) credits, to be actual interviews of actual locals.

I laughed, snickered, groaned, and felt sorry for Bernie. Jack Black is brilliant.
