Might be of interest for those developing a diversified,
large cap portfolio-

I took the top 10 stocks (by weight) in each of the
9 sector ETFs and wanted to see which
ones could beat the SPY ETF in the
following categories:

1 year, 3 year, 5 year, 10 year and 2000 to date returns.

Also as a bonus, they had to beat
the SPY during the 2000 downturn and the 2007 downturn.
(I looked only at year over year numbers, not drawdown).

These shown below accomplished the above 
or next best if there
was no clear winner for a sector.

I only picked one stock per sector, even if there were 
multiple winners.

XLY	DIS	CONSUMER DISCRETIONARY	

Note that XLP was the only sector ETF that beat the SPY on
all of the desired criteria.
