I have to agree with your post for the most part. The only thing I would add is that, in my opinion, IF a person has run up the debt, they SHOULD pay it back. Of course, whether or not to do so is a personal decision.

Also, I think even people with opinions on this issue can still be impartial when someone is asking for advice and/or help. The bottom line for me is whether the person is aware of what they are doing, if someone is fully informed that what they are doing may not be "right" in other people's opinion, but they are okay with themselves for doing it, I can provide whatever information I have available to help them do it.

In the end this is a personal decision.
