Big hazard is the surprise of a rider blasting by, even tho I'm generally more aware, there's been times when it's been a jolt... I always worried about some of the folks in those little hotshot Civics suddenly darting in or across a few lanes at the wrong moment.
Over the years when I was street riding, Triumph T110, Harley K model, mre than once I had drivers just flat never seeing me, of course I was doing 70 in a 45 on my way out of town or some such..
Never laid it down, came close once, an old rusty Chevy pulled out, I kinda half laid it over to get around in front as he jammed the brakes on, I straightened up, kept going, but it scared the crap out of both of us.. SPLAT was the other option... That was the '53 Triumph, hardtail, no front brakes, looked great, but...
Always the unknown, whether a seasoned rider or a newbie, even dirt riders pay their dues at times.. Not in traffic, maybe, but a friend spent his life in a chair after a few too many, getting flipped into some mine tailings over in Nevada.. We used to head out, camp. ride for a week or so for several years... But it shook us all up, slowed us down for all riding, but I still have that XT500 Yamaha out on the shop, left it at my brother's cabin for years, near Sonora, so others could ride it, I rode maybe a couple times a year until it became too rough for my brother so I pulled it so he wasn't tempted.. At 81, he's a tad brittle..
An inlaw has a couple biles, a 103 Harley, and a Hayabusa, he's 66, re-took a riding class after buying the Hayabusa, has a lot of fun with it's 200 horsies, so far so good.. But he bought the 103 for a road bike, more comfy for him and his wife.. I was going to try the Hayabusa, but when I went to get on, the pegs would have had to be moved, I'm too stiff, anyway I took it as a sign I wasn't meant to be on it, so I backed off, but it was tempting...
And i still need to hit the lottery, find one to play with.. What are the odds?
