Received in email. We have all this hand-wringing over budget cuts, meanwhile we send Big Oil over $10B in subsidies? Really? Does anyone else see a disconnect there? As lawmakers try to avoid driving the country over yet another fiscal cliff, they're debating cuts to education, healthcare and other important programs that millions of people need, However, there's one massive government handout that is not yet on the table -- the more than $10 billion in annual subsidies to Big Oil.Subsidizing the oil industry is like giving Bill Gates a free computer (well, maybe more like giving him a few million free computers). The oil industry profited more than $100 billion last year, making it the most lucrative industry on the planet, yet U.S. taxpayers continue to give the oil industry money we don't have. That's why I just signed this petition to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asking him to follow through on his recent suggestion and cut oil subsidies as part of a deal to avoid the so called "sequester" cuts that will ruin the economy.
