I thought folks here might be interested...

Last night I heard an interview on All Things Considered (National Public Radio) with Bill Joy, the co-founder & chief scientist at Sun Microsystems (SUNW). He was talking about the potential benefits and harm of Genetic Engineering, Nanotechnology and Robotics. He also mentioned Ray Kurzweil's book, "The Age of Spiritual Machines" as a catalyst in influencing his recent thinking on the subject. (For more information on the book, you can follow the link at I don't know how you can replay the show. I checked, and couldn't find a link. The segment started at 6:36pm last night here in the Denver area. I suppose you could order a hard copy transcipt of the show if you really wanted see it. Apparently much of what Bill Joy said will be included in an article which he has written for the April 2000 "Wired" magazine. I am a subscriber, and I haven't seen it, so it's not out yet, I guess. Maybe hitting the newsstand soon.
