I have a cash balance with my online broker earning very little. I know nothing about bonds, but are they a better place to park cash on a temporary basis? I am thinking about BND and LQD. Are there any disadvantages? Clearly the value can go up or down, but over a few months I am reluctant to have cash earning a negative real return.

BIL if you must buy something---for example in an IRA.

Otherwise, just do ACH transfers to Etrade MM account, or HSBC or FNBO or other similar online bank accounts.
