Bret wrote:Our company is changing its 401K program from Smith Barney to SunTrust, which will give us more choices and finally an index fund choice. It is the Vanguard Index 500 Trust. My other choices are as follows:
1)Putnam International Growth
2)Franklin Templeton Small Cap Growth
3)Janus Enterprises
4)STI Classic T.S. Growth Equity
5)American Century Income & Growth
6)Life Vision Maximum Growth
7)Life Vision Growth & Income
8)Life Vision Balanced Portfolio
9)STI Classic Investment Grade Bond
10)SunTrust E.B. Stable Asset Fund
11)Company Stock (BXG)

My question is how much on a percentage basis should I put into the Index fund. I thinking of putting some percentages into 1,2,4,5 in addition to the Vanguard INdex and I have yet to research 6,7, and 8. Unless you feel they are a good option I most likely will not include those in my choices? I would rather be agressive at this point in time. Thank you for your opinion.

jeffy3 replies: I love index funds and the Vanguard S&P500 (VFINX) is the King of all index funds. I recommend you drop over to the index funds message board for more in depth reading about index funds.
Quite frankly, I would not invest in any of those other funds with VFINX available. You are hard pressed to get much more diversified than VFINX already is. If you feel you just must own more funds consider Vanguard's total stock market index fund (VTSMX)and Vanguard's Growth index (VIGRX). Other index alternatives can be found at the following link: http://options.nasdaq-amex.com/indexshares/index_shares_over.stm

Good luck.
