BTW, if/when you rent a car, you can use a credit card that provides Comprehensive and Collision coverage on the rented car when you use their card to rent the vehicle. Doing so can help get around the limitation of "Temporary Substitute Auto" in policies when you might be, say, out of town w/o your car and your car is not in a shop being repaired.

OTOH, buying the coverage rental car agencies offer (require if your policy does not provide Physical Damage coverage on a "Non-Owned Auto" basis), while costly, is not a completely bad idea, as I've seen rental car agencies pursue customers for payment for "Loss of Use" while their cars are being repaired from an accident. Many (if any) insurers won't pay that, and the charges can add up to quite a sum if the rented car is in a shop for a couple of weeks or longer. If you buy the coverage the rental car agencies offer, they generally don't pursue reimbursement for Loss of Use, at least in my experience.

Just a couple of thoughts to consider.

Bob
