Shake Shack: Madison and 23rd st.. Located outdoors in Madison Sq. Park (not open in the winter) it is a great, cheap place to eat well and people watch. Designed by Danny Meyer's to harmoniously mesh with the environment it offers classics as well as interesting variations on bugers, milkshakes, custards,etc.

Prime Burger – 5 E. 52 st. , right off of 5th ave. Not only are the burger good here, but the interesting seating … you'll see … makes for an experience.

Blue 9 Burger - 12 st. & 3rd Ave. Delicious, cheap, and sometimes messy place in the East Village. A no-frills order-at-the-counter spot the thin beef patties are grilled to order and the fries hand cut.

Island Burgers & Shakes: 9th Ave btw 51st &52nd. Good stuff but a small place.

Burger Joint – located in the lobby of the swanky hotel Le Parker Meridien, 6th Ave. and 56th St. it serves one of the best burgers in the city along with shakes, fries and beer on tap.
