But I really want to donate to a group that will help rebuild houses and get small businesses reopened.

I would wait for a few months and check with a number of churches in your area. After Katrina, a number of Baptist organizations came into our area to help with emergency aid to homeowners (my BIL come down with a couple of friends from his church to patch roofs, clear away downed trees, etc. ) The next spring/summer, a number of other church groups (Roman Catholic, Lutheran, etc. ) sent youth groups down on “mission trips” to help residents rebuild, especially in the poorer areas of N’Orleans. These “mission trips” have continued through the years until this fall. The kids need tools, paint brushes, gloves, etc., etc.

C.J.V. - that is probably your best “bang for your buck” IMHO, me
