But if you are using ice made by your freezer, once you add together the heat generated by making the ice, plus the small amount of heat generated by the motor of the fan, wouldn't the net effect be warming the room?

Possibly, I don't know. I was thinking of using it in another room or (since the cooler is so large and the output of most refrigerators so puny) with a bag of ice from a convenience store.

In any case the fan and the outlet are so small I doubt you'd be able to cool a large room. More likely you'd want to put it near where you were sitting or laying.

Trying to cool a whole house this way wouldn't be LBYM, but I can see this (with the right battery/fan combination) being used in an emergency or car camping in the summer.
