But see, i think of buying stuff that lasts for the duration as being frugal.

Yes, but if I posted about spending $270 on boots as frugal:

1. Someone would have posted about how they never pay more then $25 on a pair of boots.
2. Someone else would have posted that I should have just had my old boots fixed up.
3. A third person would have told me I shouldn't have gotten the super cute pair, I should have asked for the cheapest pair they sold, even if it wasn't in my size, and ask for an extra discount if I was lucky enough to find mismatched ones.
4. A fourth person would have calculated out how much money that would be on the day I died if I had conservatively invested it instead of getting boots.
5. Finally someone would have posted he/she doesn't wear boots at all, just wraps his/her feet in the plastic bags that the newspaper comes in.
