But the counselor is supposed to be working for BOTH of them, not just him or her. It sounded, to me, like he wants a counselor that agrees with him.

I agree with you, and the counselor may be perfectly competent. But choosing a counselor that is right for your situation is kind of tricky - they BOTH have to feel they are being taken seriously, and he doesn't. (And you are also right - he may not feel he's being listened to unless the counselor explicitly says YOU ARE RIGHT AND SHE IS WRONG, which isn't going to happen. That's a different issue.)

The best suggestion, actually, would be to bring this issue up with the counselor and see what they say.
