But we know nothing about it. Is it a state program? Is it federal? Doesn't Social Security get into the act sometimes? How does one start to find out about this?

The one time I went on disability, it was a private program paid by my job, so I don't know much about it. But a quick search on Google brought me to this:

and there's a little box with various kinds of income disability programs. From the couple I looked at, there wasn't actually information - it was more 'call this number to get a brochure' but it would be a start.
