But yes, when a midwest high schooler says marine biology, you have to roll your eyes. This person has not received much counseling on careers or what it takes to get a job when you graduate.


Or maybe they have received career counseling and have done the research and they know exactly what is involved in pursueing this career, but it's what they want to do and they aren't about to be stopped by someone rolling their eyes.

I was just listening to an interview with Sonia Sotomayer. I imagine that a lot of people rolled their eyes when, at the age of 10, she said she wanted to be a lawyer. After all, she was a Puerto Rican living in a housing development of the South Bronx being raised by a single mother in the 1950s. Most people probably figured she had already gone as far as she was ever going to go.

How many people are rolling their eyes at her now?
