Can I ask what the rush is? Is the doctor afraid he's using it as an emotional crutch? As long as he is using other age-appropriate toys and this is the one hold over...<shrug>. I can't see the harm, but I ain't no doctor, either.

We sorta have an unhealthy cycle going. FirstLock has a slight, but broad, developmental delay. He is about a half-step behind his peers on almost everything.

He now knows that he is "different" and that is causing anxiety. His anxiety manifests as wanting to take Elmo to school or hiding under his desk at school. (Or as in this morning, he locked himself in the bathroom and declared he is not going to school*.) But the way he deals with the anxiety makes more social pressure and that leads to more anxiety. So we are trying to get him to deal with his anxiety in a more age-appropriate way so it does not lead to even more anxiety.

*Mrs. Lock unlocked the bathroom with a church-key. FirstLock did not even know this is possible, and when he asked her how she did it, she told him it was "Magic Mommy Power." She refused to tell him exactly how she did it, and he is now on full-investigation mode.
