can someone explain the rationale behind the additional child tax credit?

Hmmm. Rationale. Tax law. [sound of maniacal laughter]

This one makes even less sense this year than it did last year, when at least the idea seemed to be to give the prolific working poor their SS and Medicare taxes back.

I can, however, tell you why IRS wants to send you money when you didn't pay any. Congress told them to and the President signed off on it.

P.S. I haven't slogged through all the rules on this credit to make sure you really are entitled to it, but in the spirit of Universal Whatever am accepting the fact that you are.
