Sort of a convoluted question, but here goes. My grandfather has a house; he has never taken his one time capital gains write-off and doesn't ever plan to. One day, mom is probabkly going to have the sell the house and then have a hefty capital gain to claim. Is there any wise strategic planning they can do to get around this problem or is she just going to be stuck in tax hell when the time comes?
