The more I learn about Celeritek, the more I like it's future prospects. In addition to their growing sales of power amplifier semiconductors to cell-phone handsets, they have some other business that have enormous potential.

One of their customers is Gilat. If you are not familiar with them, here is their introduction from their website: "Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. is a global leader in VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) satellite communications technology, manufacturing and service. The Company provides end-to-end telecommunications and data networking solutions to customers across six continents."

Celeritek provides components that go into VSATs, and Gilat is one of their customers. From Celeritek's website: "Celeritek's linear transmitters are used extensively by market leaders, such as Gilat, for Ku-band, C-band and the emerging, even higher frequency Ka-band satellite very small aperture terminal (VSAT) applications. These solutions enable the evolution from one-way (receiving) to two-way (sending and receiving), interactive transmissions"

Now combine this information with the joint press release from Gilat and Microsof( feb 16, 2000 http://www.gilat.com/gilat/): "MSN and Gilat Satellite Networks Introduce First Consumer Two-Way Satellite High-Speed Internet Access Service

New Company to Offer Broadband Access Service to MSN Internet Access Subscribers..."

This service will make broadband internet service available in 2001 to lots of places for which Cable/DSL broadband will not be available. It will require a VSAT dish/transmitter from Gilat. Who is already a key supplier for Gilat's VSAT? Celeritek!

The story gets even better. I found from another press release that Echostar and Tandy have joined the Microsoft-Gilat alliance (Feb 23, 2000). This means you can get satellite TV AND high speed internet access from Gialt-to-Home, and you can walk into a Radio Shack store to get the VSAT dish/transmitter.

Could be big...
