I have been using a Chase Visa since 1988 when they charged $45/year annual fee. In the last few years I noticed that the new Chase CC's are offered with NO annual fee. So I called the customer service to have the fee removed permanently. They agreed to do so on a per year basis, not permanently. This means I have to go through this every year.Does anyone else have this problem with Chase? I find them very inflexible and seriously considersing cancelling the account.
I have a Bell Atlantic Chase, previously a Nynex Chase. The APR is 17.4%. I used to have a Ford Citibank with a 19.8% APR and I asked Citibank to lower to interest and the only way to do this was to switch to a classic Citibank - fine, no new Ford truck, but a 12.4% APR. So I tried to do the same with Chase- they won't budge. The funny thing is Bell Atlantic is an east coast phone company, and I'm on the west coast. I've earned all these stupid points for some non-existent phone bill. Also the Chase people never seem to have the authorization to do anything, the manger isn't there, and their computers are down a lot. Especially when I call.
Update- my post fired me up to call them. I had a zero balance but was looking for a lower interest rate to transfer a balance. They know the scoop. They immediately transfered me over to some "specialist" to give a 9.9% APR on a transfered balance until it's paid in full. Good deal for me, good deal for them. I think it helps that I had a zero balance. Suddenly they were very attentive.
I too called up Chase and told them I want to cancel my account due to the annual fee. They tried to discourage me from cancelling, but since their "manager was out", they could not make a decision about the annual fee at this time. I was told I would get an answer by Monday. Fine I said, I'll wait till then, but I already got my Citibank Preapproved Platinum Visa form filled out. I'll give them till Monday to reply or else I'm walking I said. We'll see.
Hello123,I had a credit card with Chase and I cancelled it for three reasons:1) They wouldn't lower the interest rate on my card2) Even though I sent letter upon letter with a copy of my marriage certificate, everything was still in my maiden name.3) As for the annual fee, I had to go through the same thing every year. The last year, they refused to waive the fee so I said good-bye.Christine
Ok, after waiting till today, I called Chase about what they decided to do about cancelling my annual fee PERMANENTLY. Well, they wanted me to now wait till the end of the week for a decision. This it, cancel Chase. Hello Citibank.I feel good about this.
