Cook County (usually known as 'crook' county......

"Drawing the ire of the gun lobby, Cook County Board President Preckwinkle is eyeing a violence tax on guns and ammunition sold in the city and suburbs, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.

Such a tax alone wouldn’t close a $115 million budget gap in 2013, but it could at least funnel money into the county’s $3 billion operation — where roughly two-thirds of the budget pays for both the county’s public health clinics and two hospitals along with the criminal justice system that includes the courts and jail. ---

Violence tax? Gimme a break. Criminals don't buy guns through the 'system' and pay any taxes. They're the ones committing the violence. It's just more and more taxes to fund the corrupt Cook County political machine and pay all those high cost, gold plated union salaries and benefits. I mean, all those administrators need $100,000 in pensions each year plus free health care!...someone has to pay! And all those school teachers in Chicago. Someone has to pay.

It would just add yet more layers of taxes, and likely cost the city 100 million in lawyer fees fighting yet another attack on the Second Amendment.

It's another "sin tax" that won't raise anywhere near what they assume it will, only in this case it's a "sin tax" against self-defense! Seems like every crappy idea is born in Chicago, or at least has a relative there.
