Research results from Loyola Medical in Chicago:"A recent Loyola study fails to support the common belief that the number of calories burned in physical activity is a key factor in rising rates of obesity."Researchers compared African American women in metropolitan Chicago, who weighed an average of 184 pounds, with women in rural Nigeria, who averaged 127 pounds."Researchers were surprised to find no significant difference between the two groups in the amount of calories burned during physical activity. "Decreased physical activity may not be the primary driver of the obesity epidemic," said Loyola nutritionist Amy Luke."Researchers made no mention of whether the women in rural Nigeria added Chicago style deepdish pizzas and barbeque platters to their diet during the study.Re-reading the quote, are they saying that Chicago women average 184 pounds? Holy Cow!
