Cisco makes highly intelligent network devices called "Routers". These devices regulate how network traffic flows from one network to another. For example, how will my e-mail message get from Chicago to Istanbul?

Basically, Cisco has ridden the internetworking explosion of the 90s and their devices are to networks what oxygen is to humans. As networks grow and become more complex, the need for network routing is even more essential.

On an equivalency scale: Where Microsoft owns the corporate desktop. Cisco has a presence in almost every organizations network world-wide.

Hope that helps.
