Classical Conundrums!

In honor of our magnificent opening week, the Classical Music and Musicians thread will hold games. These games will be held under the following guidelines/rules.

What is a Classical Conundrum?

conundrum 1. a riddle, especially one with an answer in the form of a play on words; 2. something puzzling, confusing or mysterious.

For our purposes, a Classical Conundrum is a riddle related to Classical music. The answer to the riddle can be a composer, a piece of music, a performer, a musical instrument.

The composer of the conundrum offers a periodic clue (one a day is a good rate, but the composer should use discretion based on the discussions) -- the more mysterious, the better -- to the answer.

The players may discuss among themselves possibilities by posting threads with theories as to the answer. The composer awards the first poster who comes up with the correct answer with the prize of his choosing and then, at his or her discretion, gives a short discourse on the subject of the conundrum.

(Offering "you're getting warmer," etc., is allowed if the composer creates a particularly knotty conundrum.)

RULE: NO GUESSING!

This rule exists to forward the game's purpose: to provide lively discourse regarding classical music. It is not enough to say "Is the answer such-and-such?" One must say something along the lines of "Well, I think it's such-and-such because the clue is this-and-so and such-and-such had whatchamacallit and doohickeys that were this-and-so."

Who may compose Classical Conundrums?

Anyone who cares to as long as they adhere to the guidelines herein.

Who may play Classical Conundrums?

These games are open to all who come to our queendom as long as they 1) Play Nice; and 2) Play Nice.

RULE: NUMBERING CONUNDRUMS:

Conundrums must be coded in the subject line according to their composer's screen name plus the number of the riddle. For example, my first conundrum will be numbered "MOI001." This stands for My Own Igloo (conundrum number) 1. My second and third riddles will be numbered "MOI002, MOI003," etc., etc. Please pay attention to others' numbering so that we do not have duplicates. This will allow us to keep track of conundrums and ensure that good ones get archived properly.

OBJECT OF THE GAME:

Of course, the object is to get the answer. However, from the perspective of the creator/composer of the conundrum, the objects are: 1) to stump other players; 2) to promote lively discourse; 3) to keep the game going as long as possible. The longer the thread, the better the conundrum!

So what are you waiting for?

Go Forth and Play!
