CMW,

I'm sure you can get far better answers from someone else that frequents Montreal. I've stayed there two nights back in 1990 in two different hotels. The first was on St. Catherine St., I believe. And basically near the intersection of it and Crescent St. location of a Journey's End Inn at the time I think. The Journey's End has since rebranded but still managed by Choice Hotels.

It was about half the cost of the first hotel stayed at and actually had nicer rooms, but it was far newer then. The first hotel, I forget the name of it had a lot of service businesses in lobby such as haircutting, gift shops, etc...But I actually preferred the Choice Hotel and it was half the cost.

Here's the link to the Choice Hotel I stayed at. It seems like the location your interested in and I would have stayed there again if the opportunity presented itself. but that was almost 15 years ago so conditions may have changed.
