Some private companies that frequently tap the debt market publish their financials. Its worth digging through their website to see if it is easy to reach. Calling or emailing them wouldn't hurt either.

LONGREITS,

You wrote, Anyone know how to dig up the financial for an LLC?

Sure: http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?action=getcompany&am...

Any company that has traded securities that are registered and publicly traded (no Rule 144A restrictions) has to post a certain amount of information with the SEC, even if they are privately held. That's the definition of registered securities.

I went to the SEC site and searched for "Colt Defense". Two companies were offered. I selected "Colt Defense LLC", which is how Colt Defense refers to itself in its press announcements here: http://www.colt.com/mil/home.asp

If a small-time investor can buy it on E*Trade (and it's sold in a US non-currency market), you can find out at least a minimum of information from the SEC about it. Whether or not the filed disclosures will be adequate to make an informed decision (or that you'll be able to sift through all the noise) is another matter.
