Is KEM any better than competitors? Dominating, Rule Maker?

I just reread an old article in IBD about AVX, a competitor of KEM.
The similarities are remarkable, both companies claim to be:
1) saving by switching from palladium to nickel
2) making the most in-demand types: tantalum and MLCC
3) weathered the 1998 slump better than competitors
4) cutting costs effectively

Taken from Yahoo
               AVX KEM VSH AMK
profit margin 13.8 14.7 14.1 13.6
ROE 28 33 23 25
invent turns 4.3 4.7 3.3 2.6
$k/employee 105 69 98 96

To my untrained eye, there is not that much difference.
Maybe KEM is slightly ahead.

AVX sales are only half capacitors, the rest other passive discretes.
AVX is about 70% owned by Kyocera, whereas KEM is only 29% insider owned.

It is hard to compare, since many of the competitors
are broad-line (sell other components than capacitors
or are Japanese companies.

It is not clear that KEM will do significantly better than the industry.
But this is surely just a glance at the facts.
