I am an independent contractor who helps physician groups with admininstrative forms required by the hospital. I have bought a lap top computer to help me keep track of all the patient accounts that I work with on a daily basis in a database. Because I work at the hospital I take the lap top to the hospital and enter the patient account information into the database as I work with each individaul account. I use the database to print out lists of patient accounts I have worked with on a monthly basis. I get paid by each group based on how many patient accounts are on the list. I have a seperate home computer that I use to track my stocks and for word processing. Can I deduct the lap top as a business expense? Also if I can claim it as a deduction, how do I do it. Thanks.
