Congratulations on your promotion.

Having worked in the department for 7 years, you know its mission quite well. Your co-workers are likely to give you the benefit of the doubt.

A few thoughts--

>You know how they like to be treated. Coaching will work better than bossing. Seek consensus when possible. Be the decider if necessary.

>Copy the best methods used by the best bosses you have worked for. Learn from and avoid their mistakes.

>Do what you can to get your team the best raises and the best perks. This will pay dividends.

>Everyone wins when your team does good work and is recognized as the best. Keep that goal in mind and mention it often. Recognize and praise those who help make it happen.

>Once you get control of raises, reviews and budgets, you are the boss.

>Earn their respect and work to deserve it
