Costco has started offering group health insurance for businesses in some areas. You can qualify as a business simply by forming a sole proprietorship, so that is not much of a barrier.

Some professional organizations, such as the IEEE, also offer group health to members, so depending on your field before retirement you may be eligible to join one of those groups and take advantage of their insurance plans.

Here in Washington state the legislature's "cold fusion" approach to health insurance has led to all of the private insurers dropping out of the market for new individual policies. I hope this is not the start of a national trend.
