Credit card fraud departments are created by the institution for one reason - to stop monetary loss to the bank. The bank loses money for fraud charges in which the card was present. People who steal credit cards (or get a credit card in another manner - ie identity theft) will go to a gas station and use the pay at pump to see if the card works. If it does work onward and upward to larger purchases such as electronics. Having a credit card declined for a 'fraud alert' is not a reflection on the person. If the bank thinks a card has been stolen they can and will stop charges until verified. iescapar
