I was wondering the same things about DRIPX. I wonder if the relatively low returns have anything to do with the fact that it's limited to companies that have automatic dividend reinvestment programs. I'm not sure why it should be that way but I can't think of anything else.
I guess I was just looking for an easy way out. I think you're right that the better option is to invest in the stocks individually.
