Cummings continues:How Do We Know? But how can we know that the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God?....Some say that we know the Bible is the Word of God because the church made the Bible, and the church is infallible. But what is the church? The church is made up of sinful, fallible human beings like you and me. To base our confidence in the Bible upon a statement of the church is to build our faith upon the quicksands of mere human authority. The Bible is thus said to be the Word of God because we say so; the mind of man becomes the final standard of truth. Yet man is so obviously full of contradiction, confusion, error and sin that to build our faith on a foundation of human opinion is to invite disaster.Bible-believing Christians believe the Bible is the Word of God on the authority not of man but of God. God in his Word claims to be its author. He provides evidence in the Bible that it is indeed the very Word of God. He gives us his Holy Spirit, who shows us his hand and voice in all of Holy Scripture. We build our faith on the solid rock of God himself. We rest upon divine revelation, not human reason, as the foundation for our faith in the Bible as God's Word. Since this revelation is the very foundation of our Christian faith, we will look at three ways God testifies that the Bible is his word.1. God in His Word Claims to Be Its Author2. The Evidence within Scripture Confirms the Claim That the Bible is God's Word3. The testimony of God's Holy Spirit in Our HeartsDiscussion of these three points to follow.Rick
