My husband will be retiring within a year but I have 13 years to qualify for early S.S. retirement benefits. We would like to begin travelling and I wonder how my drastic cut-back in income will affect MY share of S.S. income when the time comes? I have received a Social Security estimate of my future benefits, stating that I have qualified for all "credits" required for benefits. But, if I don't work at all the last ten years before age 65 or if I work only part time, how will it affect my eventual benefits? If I have already qualified for the maximum based on earned credits, will I still qualify for the maximum if I choose not to work for the next few years?
