Defense Secretary Chuck Hegel presented defense cutbacks today. PBS Newshour had two analysts who agreed that the cutbacks are only about half of what the Congressional budget allocation actually requires. They pointed out giving planners an inaccurate number will cause plans to be "baked in" that will later need to be "baked out," that the Pentagon administrative staff should be reduced (probably won't happen), that benefits cuts to active and retired military will cause political pushback without saving much.

The proposed cutbacks are similar to other "stand down" cutbacks after war (about 30%). Defense contractor stock prices may be affected if the cuts haven't already been priced in.
