My question is I am think now about my next move in my portfolio... what I was thinking of was to buy some dell shares ...I already own some apple...what does everyone out their think about own more than one bus. in the same industry/or that are in direct competion with each other.

Two companies in direct competition is a play for when you are unsure which has better prospects. A good example is two companies fighting for a contract, or for a patent. You then expect to make money on one and probably lose on the other. Clearly you'd do better to just pick the winner but are not sure which that will be.
If the above is your situation, it makes sense to have both.
Personally, I'd go for a stock in a different industry before owning both AAPL and DELL. If you already have a fairly well balanced portfolio, it makes more sense. Best wishes, Chris

I don't know if DELL and APPL are in direct competition with one another, but I don't know if I would buy into two box makers. Better to diverisfy. there's a lot of other great companies out there.
