Three observations:

1. Phil spends a fair amount of his time tending to this board, and he is understandably concerned about maintaining the quality of information contained on it. When he sees incorrect or misleading statements being made, and presented as some sort of warning or information that others maight rely on, he is bound to be quick to react. Since you were the person who had posted the original information, it's understandable that you might take his comments personally.

2. I think Phil is often incensed when it appears that people (such as yourself) have been given bad advice by others.

3. Partly to protect people against bad advice, Phil regularly encourages people to become familiar with the IRS website. The IRS does offer all the tax forms and publications that would answer something like 98% of the questions like yours.

If you follow this board regularly, you will see dozens of instances every week where Phil gives people advice that helps them avoid some costly errors. After the fact, it's hard for Phil to help.
