Would anybody be interested in "The Devil in the White City"? It's about the World's Fair of 1893. Part of it is about how Chicago won the right to have the Fair (which was called an Exposition) and all the infighting about designing and building it, and part of it is about H.H. Holmes, who was also operating at the time, and who may have been the country's most prolific killer.

The book switches back and forth, so one moment you're wondering what happened to someone meeting Holmes, and the next you are suddenly touring the grounds with Frederick Olmstead, the country's greatest landscape architect.
