Did you ask them how much of a "discount" a major insurance company had negotiated for the same service?No, but I once talked with an executive on the board of directors of a local hospital. He said they added a 60% uninsured surcharge on most procedures above and beyond their normal costs for the procedures (this was a non-profit hospital). It's one reason why the uninsured pay so much more for health care -- THEY are the ones paying the bills of those that can't pay. The fewer people you divide that cost among, the larger a burden it becomes.
