Did you ever follow through on your belief that you need to hedge your portfolio?

I’ve done nothing about hedging in my portfolio. Instead, I’m doing what I always do, which is to hunker down. YTD, I’m up around 11% (on an all-bond portfolio), and the easy money is making me lazy. So I’m just sitting tight, not shopping, not buying.

I did look into Cohen’s free, 3-month subscription but decided I wasn’t a part of her target audience. As for her macro-economic call (that deflation lies ahead), I’d disagree unless one’s wants to define “total economic collapse” as “deflation”. But I’m not a good macro-economist. So I don’t try to play that game. All I know is that my personally-experienced inflation-rate runs a steady 5% or so, but that I use 6% in my projections. On that basis, very little of the current bond market is offering a real-rate of return. So I’m building fly rods, instead of buying bonds. After trout season is over, I’ll get serious about this stuff again.
