Did you get passed over? If so, you are basically looking at a dead end job. If you can go to another uniform service and get promoted, why would you stay? But, if you go GS, or private industry, you don't have to re-pay the separation pay, so that is definitely another option.
If you can do whatever you do and enjoy it somewhere else, get promoted, and NOT get deployed into another MOTW,humanitarian fiasco, why stay?

You can stay in the Reserves or go to the Guard, and keep your commissary/BX privileges. And, chances are, you'll get promoted. You might consider going back after that. A friend of mine did that. I thought it was nuts, but...... I'm still in the Reserves, my husband is considering, but not in as of yet. We are happy with being OUT.
Good luck.
